A year of landmark performances starts this fall. Meredith’s major new music-theater work, On Behalf of Nature, comes to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in December, and her residency at Carnegie Hall will result in seven different concerts featuring her music compositions.
During Meredith’s residency, performances of her piano, chamber, orchestral, and vocal works feature her unusual and fascinating use of voices and instruments to create music that is both mysterious and expressive. She performs with her the Vocal Ensemble and is also joined by various guest artists. The residency extends beyond Carnegie Hall to (Le) Poisson Rouge, where Bruce Brubaker and Ursula Oppens perform a program of Monk’s works for one and two pianos.
Meredith joins fellow recipients who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world including Paul Auster, Ornette Coleman, Marilyn Horne, Jim Jarmusch, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep.
Meredith’s newest CD release—Written or derived from work composed between 1971 and 2006, Piano Songs inhabit Monk’s unique universe, as played by two of new music’s most distinguished interpreters, pianists.
